Introduction:
LookUp Tables allow the creation of sets of common information of any type to be stored in a data file for access at any time within EstimatorVJ.
Examples are:
Structural Steel/Steel Pipe sectional properties
Weights and Measure tables
Lists of standard BQ Items and Prices to Include Clauses
Mini-estimates of standard items
even Resource Libraries
These tables can even include Qty/Rate/Cost workup sheets if desired.
Creating a LookUp Table is extremely simple.
Create/Open a Worksheet with the necessary Headings and Data desired, range the data to be put into the LookUp table, click the button and select the option 'Save this Worksheet as a LookUp', then give the file to store this data in a name and click Save.
By default, all LookUp Tables are stored in a folder called 'LookUp' in the current Projects Folder ('Estdata8'), however if you so wish these can be stored anywhere.
The data file created will contain as the first line, the Headings that were selected during creation, and the data on subsequent lines. This ensures that when the data is retrieved later on, the program can match and insert the data into the matching columns of the destination worksheet.
This is achieved by first accessing the LookUp Table. Click the button and select the option 'Load a LookUp Worksheet' then select the LookUp Table from the Open File dialog.
Having done this, a lefthand pane will open up, showing the contents of this LookUp (just like the RC List panel in a Rate/Cost workup sheet).
Here is what it will look like:
The data from the left pane (LookUp Table) can then be ranged and dropped into the right hand worksheet, or for a complete item, just double click on it.
If you range more than 1 cell of Lookup data, then when you drop the data on the worksheet, the data will be placed into the matching column using the Headings of each as the deciding factor. Range 1 cell on the left, and you can drop this anywhere on the right worksheet.
You move between LookUp Tables by clicking the 'Select LookUp' button and choosing another table.
The Text field to the right of the 'Select LookUp' button allows the entry of Search Text. If used, then only rows of data matching the search criteria will be shown as demonstrated below:
