PROGRESS STATUS

GENERALLY

EstimatorVJ will show from time to time the progress of lengthy operations in a Progress Panel.

This Progress Panel is in actual fact a separate program that is initially started by EstimatorVJ. It sits in the background doing nothing other than receiving instructions from VJ and showing them on the screen in this panel.

The Progress Panel looks like this:

The panel pops up automatically and sits on top of all other windows, then disappears when the lengthy operation is complete.

When EstimatorVJ starts, it checks to see if the progress Panel is currently running, and if not starts it. The panel then continues to run until either shut down by the user or a System shutdown. VJ does not shut it down when it exits - this reduces the time it takes for VJ to start up again.

FAILED TO OPEN

If for some reason (e.g. a Security Supervisor or Virus Checker program) VJ is not able to strat the progress Panel, an error message will be displayed stating this, and then this Help file will be opened.

The following instructions will then be required to be executed for VJ to show the various progress messages:
Open your File Manager,
Navigate to and open the 'JEstimator' folder
On Windows this will by default be located in the 'Program Files' folder
On Mac OS X this will by default be located in the 'Applications' folder

Double click to open the program 'ProgressStatus.jar'. The Progress Panel will appear briefly for 2 seconds then disappear into the background, signifying that the Program has been started.

The Progress Panel will now continue to run and be available for EstimatorVJ to communicate with until the System is shutdown.

If the Progress Panel still does not start up, then you will need assistance from the Administrator to allow it to run.
