Rounding in Displayed and Calculated Values

GENERALLY

VJ separates how Displayed values and Calculated values are implemented.

The following will explain how each of these work and are implemented.

VALUES USED IN CALCULATIONS

VJ ALWAYS uses the exact value (to 6 decimal places) in calculations. The DATA precision settings are ignored.

DISPLAYED VALUES

The value displayed on-screen and printed in Reports are subject to the specified 'Data Type' and 'Data Precision' settings for each of the columns.

Here is the dialog where you modify each column's settings.

Data Type:

Most importantly, the settings for PRECISION are applicable ONLY to those columns which have the 'Data Type' set to Number, Rate, or Cost.

Precisions:

The settings 'Qty', 'Rate', and 'Cost' get their precision from the Project Window and the Project's 'Data Precisions' shown in the diagram below.

The 'Other' setting, allows you to nominate a local setting for this column.

Whichever of the settings is chosen, specifies the number of decimal places which are to be displayed for the values in this column.

Enable Rounding:

It is important to understand that the value the cell holds is always the exact value to 6 decimal places.

If the 'Enable Rounding' is not ticked, VJ uses the EXACT value for display.
If the 'Enable Rounding' is ticked (as shown below), then the Rounded value is used for display in accordance with standard rounding principles

When 'Round' is selected, the value shown will be rounded to the nearest decimal place.
When 'Round Up' is selected, the value shown will be rounded up to the next decimal place.
