Generally
Syncing of a project means comparing a source (the project's
data folder) and destination (the Backup Folder for the project), and
adding NEW files and UPDATING more recent files to the backup folder.
The 'synced' backup folder for the Project is:
"<Backup Folder>/<Project Jobcode>.DIR/"
where:
<Backup
Folder> is the folder you specified when you clicked the

button in the Project Window
<Project
Jobcode> is the name you gave the project when you created/duplicated
it
e.g.
If you selected the sync folder to
be "/My Remote Servername/Synced VJ Backups"
and the Jobcode of the Project is
"My Project"
then the 'synced' files will be
placed in a folder called "/My Remote Servername/Synced VJ Backups/My
Project.Dir"
Activating
Syncing of the Project is started by clicking the 'Sync' button
in the project Window:
Choose the Folder where you want this Project's files synced into from
the file dialog which then gets displayed.
NOTE: DO NOT CLICK THE CANCEL BUTTON OR SELECT A FOLDER WHICH IS
NOT PERMANENTLY AVAILABLE AS THIS WILL CAUSE THE 'SYNCING' TO FAIL.
Considerations:
You can view where the current 'synced' files will be stored, by placing
the cursor over the

button for a short time without moving it. A message will then appear
for a short time displaying the currently selected folder.
If you do select the

button, then when you execute a 'Revert Worksheet' option later on, the
following dialog will appear giving you the choice of from where to
restore the Timed Backup:
The PRO'S of a 'Synced Backup' over a 'Project Backup' are:
- occurs every 10 minutes in the background
- destination folder is Project specific
- is much quicker as it only has to deal with changed files
- maintains practically ALL the individual Worksheet backups, thus
giving a 'snapshot' type audit trail during the Estimate's life
- requires less storage space over the life of the Project
- if 'synced' to a WAN device, is restorable from any computer with
the same WAN access
The PRO'S of a 'Project Backup' over a 'Synced Backup' are:
- provides an AM and PM backup for each day
- generates a 'zipped' copy ready to Email or send
- all backups go the same destination folder
REMOTE MULTI-USER CONSIDERATIONS
Some circumstances may require a Project to be worked on by a group
of REMOTE users (users in different geographical locations).
Following certain protocols, the synced backups option can be used
effectively to consolidate each remote users work into one Project
location. The Bid leader can then have access to the Project in a
state that will be at the most 15mins out of date.
